Decision support for travel approvals

The Lighthouse Report is Sarentic’s destination-based decision-support report for SMEs that want more than traveller guidance.

Compass is for travellers. Lighthouse is for approvers. It provides an approval posture plus a decision record you can sign.

The Lighthouse Report provides:

  • Destination-based coverage (includes Compass Brief)

  • Approval posture (what changes for your business)

  • Existing + additional controls (what you rely on; what to add/tighten)

  • Decision basis + decision record (clear rationale; easy to document)

How Lighthouse works in practice

Lighthouse is destination-based: it sets a standing posture for the destination. Before each departure, you re-validate key assumptions and record the approval decision.

Before each departure (about 48 hours prior): run the Smartraveller check (Attachment C) and record the approval decision (Attachment B).

Important: Sarentic does not provide ongoing monitoring. Your organisation remains responsible for monitoring material changes before and during travel. Many clients subscribe to DFAT Smartraveller updates for the destination as a baseline.

Sarentic — we don’t do doom.

We do decisions

While Compass prepares travellers, Lighthouse supports the approver and the organisation. It turns destination context into an approval posture: existing controls, additional controls, and a clear basis to approve (or adjust) travel — plus a simple decision record.

Why choose Lighthouse?

    • Lighthouse is a decision-support snapshot - not real-time monitoring

    • Not legal advice, a certification, or audit

    • Destination-based (one destination); re-validate before each departure.

FAQ

  • Both are destination-based.

Compass Brief is traveller-level guidance for that destination: what to know, how to behave, and what to watch for.

Lighthouse Report adds an organisation-level approval posture: what you’re relying on (existing controls), what to add or tighten (additional controls), and a clear basis for approval — plus a simple way to record the decision.

Pre-departure + during travel note: Because conditions change, both Compass and Lighthouse must be re-validated ~48 hours before departure using the Smartraveller check / situational validation (Attachment C). Your organisation (and travellers) are also responsible for staying aware of material updates through to the conclusion of travel — we recommend subscribing to DFAT Smartraveller updates for the destination and responding appropriately if circumstances change.

  • Use it as a destination baseline, then re-validate before each departure.

    Baseline (once, per destination):

    • Read Lighthouse and adopt your destination travel posture (existing controls + additional controls).

    Before each departure (every time):

    • Complete Attachment C ~48 hours before travel (Smartraveller update + assumptions check).

    • Record the approval decision using the Manager Decision Record (Attachment B).

    During travel (as needed):

    • Stay aware of material changes and respond accordingly (including updates published by DFAT Smartraveller).

  • Because Lighthouse sets a destination baseline — a reusable approval posture — and trip timing is handled separately.
Lighthouse is designed to give you a stable view of the destination context plus your existing controls and additional controls. Each specific trip is then handled through the required ~48-hour re-validation (Attachment C) and the decision record (Attachment B).

  • Sarentic products are priced per destination operating area — not per country.
A destination operating area is typically one city/metro area, one region/province, or one island grouping where travellers operate under similar conditions.
If your travel spans multiple operating areas, purchase separate destination briefs or keep your request to the primary operating area you want covered.

  • LLighthouse is an enduring, destination-based decision artefact designed to be reused for multiple trips.

Your organisation should re-validate trip-by-trip (typically ~48 hours prior to departure) and stay aware of Smartraveller updates through to the conclusion of travel.

As a general rule, Sarentic recommends a refresh if:

    • 12 months has passed since issue, or

    • DFAT Smartraveller advice levels change, or

    • there’s a material change in the operating environment or traveller context.

  • Light. You complete a short intake, then receive a decision-ready report you can use immediately.

No new system to adopt, and no ongoing monitoring program from Sarentic. Ongoing awareness remains your responsibility — including the required ~48-hour pre-departure re-validation and responding to material updates during travel (we recommend subscribing to DFAT Smartraveller updates for the destination).

  • No. Lighthouse is decision support — not legal advice, certification, or an audit.

It translates destination context into an approval posture for your organisation: existing controls, additional controls, and a clear basis to record the decision.
